NetEase, a Chinese-language news site reported that Apple’s “iPad mini” is going to be introduced in the third quarter of this year. While very little info about this was released, it was reported that Apple will produce as much as 6 million units prior to the launch, and they all will likely be in the price range of $249 and $299, reported NetEase.

The aftermath of this release, as anyone would have speculated, would be a stiffer competition for the Windows 8 tablet and other iPad competitors out there. While this might not be in the favor of other competing tablet producers in the market, it is guaranteed to entice young gadget lovers.
On several occasions, Apple has been rumored to be working on a lighter version of its famous iPad tablet, and in recent reports it has been set to launch on a third-quarter.
While Apple’s competitors have been planning on reducing the cost of their tablet devices for them to gain a wider market share, for Apple, releasing a cheaper iPad version of tablet would be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
