Aviate is an intelligent home screen replacement for Android, The app recently upgraded from Alpha stage to Beta. It is one of the coolest, productive, intelligent, efficient and beautiful launcher I have seen for Android. The app is invite only as it is still in Beta. As far as I have tested, the beta version is flawless and works great. I have also got a couple of Invites for the application which I will discuss later in the article.
The Aviate co-founders Paul Montoy-Wilson and William Choi used to work for Google. Montoy-Wilson worked for Google Play and Choi worked on the search department. This explains a lot as to how awesome the home screen functions. You wouldn’t need to interact with the mighty Google Now as much as you needed earlier when you didn’t have Aviate.
Now on to the Aviate interface, features and functionality.
The launcher is an adaptive home screen which uses various factors such as your Location, the time of the day to determine what you might be doing and show an appropriate home screen. For example when you wake up in the morning, It will show you a home screen with your Appointments, Weather etc. ie. the things which you will likely require in the morning.
The app uses “Collections” to intelligently auto-categorize different apps into categories like Games, Work, Social, Music etc. You can also add the preset ‘Collections’ into your home screen. They are categorized as Bar, Cooking, Entertainment, Finance, Fitness & Health etc. Adding these collections will make a new Google Now style card in the collections pane with apps which it thinks will fit into the category (collection).
The app uses different “Spaces” like Work, Night Time, Going Somewhere etc which will adapt to your current situation by gaining different data such as Location, Time of day and more. When you first use the app, Aviate will find your most used apps and pin them to your home screen (which is as usual, customizable). You can select a different space by Swiping from Left-Right on the screen, It will open up the Space selection sidebar which also contains Settings and other options as you can see in the screenshot below.
Aviate also suggests you Apps to pin to your home screen from its growing collection of apps they discover which they think will be great for its users, They can include apps like TV Guides, Entertainment apps etc.
You can also add your normal Android widgets to the home screen. To add a new widget, Just keep the screen pressed and you will see an option to ‘Add a Widget’ on the top right corner. You can rearrange your Apps on the screen by holding it and swiping to different screens and dropping them there, Just like the usual Android manner.
That is not all, You get a dedicated pane with all your apps listed, sorted in Alphabetical order. Which I think is a more easier way to access your apps than the normal ‘App drawer’ way.
You can swipe down on the current home screen (Space) to find the extra perks of using the that Space. Like when you are in the Work Space, You get the work related apps like Keep, Dropbox, Calculator etc pinned to the top and it shows the current events or Send Mail and Add Event quick access buttons.
Overall, This is the best intelligent Home Screen/Launcher I have seen for Android. I see a very bright future for this Application. It has already been download 50K times and has great reviews inspite of being in the Alpha-Beta stage.
You can download Aviate from Google Play Store. [Aviate]
The Application is Invite only at the moment and once you install the application from Play Store, You need to use your Email ID to get an Invite code. I have got a very very limited amount of Invites (5) left. If you are interested in getting an invite from me. Just visit my Facebook Fanpage and send me your Email ID via the Private Message. I will revert to you as soon as possible with a code, If the invite runs out I will let you know and send you one if I receive new ones.
