As you are probably aware that Google is shutting down their age old Social Networking site Orkut. Orkut had a massive user base during its early years, but its users started migrating to other networks soon.
The popularity of Facebook was a blow to Orkut. Finally Google decided it was time to let go of Orkut and focus on Google+.
Hence they are shutting down Orkut on 30th September 2014. i.e tomorrow.
If you want to keep all your old Orkut scraps and photos, this is your last chance. Currently you can export your Orkut photos to Google+ photos and download a backup of our Orkut profile, Scraps, Testimonials and Community posts.
The option to export your data using Google Takeout will be available till September 2016. While you can export the photos only till tomorrow i.e 30th September 2014.
Exporting Orkut Photos to Google+.
You need to have a Google+ account and Orkut account on the same Email address for this to work.
Step 1. Sign in to your Gmail ID which is associated with Google+ and Orkut.
Step 2. Click this link to open Orkut Album Exporter.
Step 3. Select all the albums you want to export.
Step 4. Click Import Selected.
That is it, Now all your photos will be backed up to your Google+ profile. Remember to check the privacy settings of the imported photos.
Downloading Orkut Profile, Scraps, Testimonials and Community Posts.
Step 1. Login to your Orkut account.
Step 2. Visit the Google Takeout page.
Step 3. Uncheck everything except Orkut (if you don’t want to export anything else).
Step 4. Then click Next.
Step 5. Choose the delivery method (Send download link via Email or if you want it to be saved to Google Drive) and click on Create Archive.
Now you will get the complete backup of your Orkut data delivered to you. Take a screenshot of your profile if you want for old memories sake. 😉
