Google Now Launcher came along with the Google Nexus 5, with features like “OK Google” hotword detection on the Homescreen. The launcher was not officially available for all Android devices but it could be sideloaded to other devices with the APK.
Still not all devices supported the launcher but now Google has made the Google Now Launcher available for all Android devices running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Google Now Launcher features.
The launcher is filled with features. These are a few of them.
1. Google Now on the Homescreen – You can access Google Now from Homescreen by just swiping the screen to right.
2. “OK Google” hotword detection from Homescreen – Just say “OK Google” when you are on homescreen and speak your query.
3. Position and preview wallpapers before you set them.
Adding a Google Now Launcher extra screen.
One thing I found confusing in the launcher was that it comes with just 2 Screens (1 Google Now and 1 the default screen). There was no setting to add an extra screen in Google Now Launcher.
After I Googled about the query I found that you can add an extra screen by dragging a widget or icon to the right of the screen. This gives you a new homescreen on Google Now Launcher.
Going back to old Launcher.
Did you mistakenly select the “Always” option when you were asked about which launcher to select? You can go back to your old launcher by going to Android Settings > Apps > Google Now Launcher. Scroll down and click on “Clear defaults”.
If the Clear defaults doesn’t work then you have to Uninstall Google Now Launcher and the device will go back to your old launcher.
You can download the Google Now Launcher from the Play Store : Google Now Launcher
