The recent update for Instagram on Android (iOS users has had this for months) has added Automatic Photo Straightening feature for photos taken through the Instagram camera. The tool is simple and does what it says, It will fix any tilted images you captured through the Instagram camera. After you capture an image on Instagram, You are directed to the editing screen where you can apply different filters to it. Well now you have another button in there which will auto straighten your tilted photo.
You also get the option to manually fine tune the photo incase the Instagram app doesn’t fix it quite well. If you are wondering how it works i.e How the app is able to auto straighten the photo, Then hear it from the makers themselves.
Here is what Alex Restrepo from Instagram team had to say,
Most smartphones contain sensors capable of determining the orientation and tilt of a device. When you take a picture in-app and tap on the new straighten icon, we use this sensor to straighten the photo automatically. In order to correct the angle, we rotate the photo by the opposite of the angle in which you held your device.
The following screenshot shows the Automatic Photo Straighten button.
Here you can see the feature in action, With the manual slider option.
You can update your Instagram app by opening the Google Play Store app on your Android, It should start the update if it hasn’t already been done. The Android update also includes a new default option offering control over whether a video plays with the sound on or off. Plus it is going to be introducing Advertisements into the app soon. Do you think this is a good move? Share it on Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus.
