Yesterdays hot topic in the Social Network was about Gaddafi’s death, As always when there is a hot and viral topic in the internet spammers dont leave it alone and spams are as much dangerous as they are annoying to users
Therefore like the previous major spams on Facebook and Twitter like Osama’s death photos being spread virally, ofcorse those were fakes created by morphing and photoshopping. The same could be the case with Gaddafi’s death. There have been many photo’s sent and shared among users of Twitter and Facebook most of them have no Official Proof and some of them are fakes.
Not only are they fakes, some might even lead you to malicious sites, There have been cases in the past when you receive a promising link which says you can view the photo by clicking on it.
There are two cases of them.
1. You click the link and they lead to some fake sites like blahblahrip.com etc, Then you are not shown a photo but are infected with the malware attached to the sites, which autodownloads to your PC on viewing the site.
2. You click the link and they lead to some site where you are shown the Fake photo and the moment you are watching the pic, Your pc is getting infected with autodownloading Malwares.
Since the first case seems more suspecting to the users, Spammers and malicious users will resort to using the second method wherein you will also share the photo with your friends and this becomes a viral chain and in the way infecting thousands of people.
Also since social networks are the sources for most Breaking News, Search engines do believe them to an extent because they have no other source of trusted information so even if you search for these types of pics on the internet, You are most likely to land on a malicious site with a fake photo.
Photos shared by trusted sources are the ones that should be believed, CNN had also warned social networkers of possible spamming using the fake photos because such incidents has occurred in the past.
