You all probably know about the Google Pagerank. It is a value based system developed by Google to rank websites on the basis of 100s of On Page and Off Page factors.(We are glad to tell HackTabs.com is PageRank 2/10). A similar system had been developed by Facebook.
What is EdgeRank all About?
EdgeRank is a new Facebook Algorithm that aims to value Fanpages and other News Feed Items on the basis of their Quality and sort them into the ones which are to be shown on the Users News Feed. This means your news feed wont be cluttered with thousands of Updates from every single page you liked in the past but only those in which you would be interested.
How Does Facebook Value Items in EdgeRank.
Facebook has many ways to value pages and score them accordingly to make them show up or not.I will discuss with you a few of which I know.
- Interaction [Affinity]
Interaction from your fans are essential part of Edgerank. If your pages do not have any interaction from your fans then its Edgerank will drop and so will its visibility in news feeds. Interaction from fans means Wall Posts,Likes,Comments etc.
- Type of Interaction [Weight]
For Facebook to profit from their system they want real readers and not vague non responding pages or apps. Hence they place a weight on some interaction types like Photo/Video sharing by your fans or friends is considered to increase your Edgerank score more than just a like.
The following is a guess work of different interaction types that can increase value (Descending order of importance)
- Photo/Video Sharing
- Link Sharing
- Status Update/Wall Post
- Time of Update [Time]
Internet is all based upon current happenings and no one wants aged information or news, Hence the time of your update also counts in the Edgerank score.
The Facebook Edgerank Formula
The following is the Facebook Edgerank Formula as provided by Facebook.
Remember! Edgerank Is Not Only Applied to Fanpages
Yep! Facebook Edgerank is an Algorithm and is not only applied to your Fanpages or Apps but also with your Friends. Nowadays do you see all your friends Status Updates on your News Feed? The answer is Obv. NO! Because Facebook wants to show you only things related to your daily habit hence it only shows you feeds from the friends you interact the most.
This can however be overruled by a small tweak in your News Feed.

After you do the above changes just Refresh the pages to see the effect!
