Vine is a new start-up that Twitter acquired in order to create a service that will allow you to record short 6 seconds videos on your device and share on Twitter. Vine is a mobile app that allows you to record short 6 seconds videos with audio, The app is deep rooted into Twitter and allows you to share the video on Twitter easily.
Twitter now embeds the Vine videos into tweets and they all starts auto playing when viewed in Twitter timeline. Although the sound is muted by default probably because when the service becomes popular, Your feed will be filled with Vine videos and they all starting to play automatically will not be entertaining. 😀
This is how the embedded video looks like:
The 6 seconds videos are like GIF Images, except for the addition of sound factor. At the moment there is only a Mute/Unmute button on the video, I couldn’t find a way to pause the videos.. They start looping infinitely unless you close the page, Which is a bit irritating. I bet there will be Chrome/Firefox/Greasemonkey extensions and scripts coming up soon which will add further functionality to the service such as Pause/Play/Disable Autoplay (just giving some ideas to developers 😉 ).
“Like Tweets, the brevity of videos on Vine (6 seconds or less) inspires creativity,”
“Now that you can easily capture motion and sound, we look forward to seeing what you create.”
Vine is currently available only on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, Though they are working on bringing it to more platforms.. Android eh? 😉
You can download Vine for Free from the iTunes Store.
You don’t need a Twitter account to start using Vine, Though Signing up is quicker with the Twitter Login.
