The following guide will help you unlock your LG G Watch’s Bootloader and Root it. Rooting an Android Wear is fairly new to the Android community as there aren’t many devices in the market at the moment. Hence there isn’t much development going on in the field as well.
Currently there is just one Custom ROM for the LG G Watch. The ROM doesn’t come with a ton of features but boasts an improved battery life and a few other features.
Unlocking the bootloader and rooting an Android voids its manufacturer warranty, so keep that in mind before you proceed.
The first step to playing with your phone must be – Backup. In case anything goes wrong, you will always have somewhere to return and play safe again. 😉
I have written a post covering the backup methods for all popular mobile operating systems, you can read it here : How to Backup your Phone.
Once you are sure you have all your content backed up. Proceed to the next step.
Download and Install LG G Watch Drivers.
Step 1. Download Google USB Drivers and extract the Zip to a folder.
Step 2. Open your Device Manager > Right click on the G Watch listing and select Update Drivers.
Step 3. Choose the option to search for drivers on the computer and then point to the folder where you extracted the Zip file (usb_driver folder).
Step 4. Restart the PC.
Now that the drivers are installed, you can proceed with unlocking the bootloader and rooting the G Watch. I have written the following guide after watching XDA member RootJunky’s video on the topic. So if you get stuck at any point or if you prefer to watch a video tutorial then you can watch it below.

Step 4. Enter the following command in the prompt:
If the command returns a serial number then your device is connected else check and reinstall the drivers.
Step 5. After that enter the following command:
adb reboot bootloader
Step 6. Let the watch reboot to bootloader then type in:
fastboot oem unlock
Step 7. The watch will display “NO” hit the left arrow on the screen to change it to “Yes” > Hit the center button.
Step 8. When it says “locked state – Unlocked” hit the center button again to reboot.
Now your LG G Watch’s Bootloader has been unlocked successfully. You are closer to rooting your device now. Also your device has been reset to factory settings so set it up again and re-enable ADB Debugging.
