Sandboxie plays a very important role in the computer security. It helps eliminate computer security risks by using a Virtual Machine sort of method to prevent data leak into real computer hard disk.
What is Sandboxie?
Sandboxie is very useful software to check whether or not a program is infected. Sandboxie runs your programs in an isolated space which prevents them from making permanent changes to other programs and data in your computer.
How to Use Sandboxie to Prevent Virus Infections
Step 1. Download Sandboxie from here and install it.
Step 2. Open Sandboxie control from Start menu>Sandboxie.
Step 3. Change the display of the file by clicking View>Files and Folders.
Step 4. The Default box is the place where the file is run and we can view the results.
Checking a file for infection:
Step 1. Open a suspicious file by Right clicking the file and clicking Run Sandboxed, Select the Default Box.
Step 2. Now, Double click the Yellow Sandbox icon in the Notification Tray near the Date and Time.
Step 3. Expand the All Files and Folders.
Step 4. To know weather the file is infected or not, Check if the file has dropped and other suspicious file in the drives.
Step 5. To check that keep on expanding the All Files and Folders until you see a files that is not to be dropped by the file. eg: A Music file dropping a .exe file is a sure indication of Virus.
This way you can run suspicious downloaded attachments if you are eager to see what it is without harming your computer.
You can also use Sandbox for browsing the web with the help of your default or any other browser. This way you can prevent the temporary files from leaking into the original Hard disk.
