5 Million Gmail Passwords Leaked, Check Your Account Here

A recent report from Daily Dot informs that a Russian Bitcoin Forum has a thread containing leaked information of over 5 Million Gmail accounts.

The leak is said to have a mix of valid and suspended account credentials with users claiming that upto 60% of the passwords are valid and working.

There is no specifics of how the credentials were gathered but Phishing seems to be a common tactic for mass hacking. Phishing is a hacking technique where a legitimate user is sent to a fake clone of the original website login page. When the user enters his username/password it is record by the hacker and then the user is redirected to the original website so as to avoid any suspicions.

Check if your account was included in the leak.

A website which checks your email id against the leaked database has been setup. You can find the tool here : IsLeaked?

If the page returns:

No! Your account probably is not in public access! However, we are strongly recommend to change your password periodically.

Then you are fine. But change your passwords for safety.

If the page returns:

Yes! Account [email protected] is found! First two symbols of password is: **. Immediately change your password!

Then your account was included in the leak. Act fast and change your passwords and enable 2 Step Authentication.
