Akismet is installed in every self hosted WordPress blog by default, but to activate it you need to have an API which you can get for free or buy relating to the size of your blog.
What Happens When Akismet Counts My Comment As Spam?
Aksimet scans through every comment that is posted on your blog and runs different tests on it to determine if it is a spam. If your comment is marked as spam then it is removed from the comment field and thrown to the spam bin where it is upto the admin to approve or reject it.
Why Is My Comment Termed As Spam?
There are many reasons to explain this cause. Like your IP is blacklisted in many spam databases. Akismet uses these databases to mark your comment as spam. The Domain Name you use in the URL field can also play a role in the test results.

How Can I Remove My IP From Akismet Spam Database?
- Open this page Contact.
- Choose “I think Akismet is catching my comments by mistake”.
- Fill out the form and enter your Email Address and Blog URL so that they can De-Blacklist you.
- It might take a week or so to De-Blacklist you, till then find out why you were blacklisted by scanning your computer for bots etc which might be spamming with your IP.
- Additionally you can ask your buddy bloggers to unspam your Blog comments which might have entered the spam box.
